Special Operations Solutions, LLC (SOS), a small disadvantaged business based in Silver Spring, MD, was recently awarded a contract to support Dynamic Aviation Group, Inc. in providing the U.S. Forest Service with an exclusive-use light fixed wing aircraft and services in support of wildland firefighting operations. SOS will be providing and integrating the airborne EO/IR sensor system for fire mapping missions, along with related equipment and services. We will also be providing our custom-developed GeoFOCIS software, a geospatial database providing 3D situational awareness and workflow management.

Special Operations Solutions, LLC (SOS), a small disadvantaged business, was recently awarded two contracts with Solar Ship, Inc. in support of an experimental hybrid aircraft.

SOS will be designing and developing the pressure management system for the aircraft, which is a critical primary flight structure and includes the cockpit user control interface, control unit, and automated pressure management system. SOS is responsible for designing, developing, and installing the system, including providing all hardware, software, and related equipment.

SOS will also be designing and developing a flight test data acquisition system and flight data recorder for monitoring and analyzing the aircraft and its subsystems. The data acquisition system provides real-time aircraft and mission equipment data to support aircraft flight testing, while the flight data recorder is used for continuing operation of the aircraft. SOS will provide all hardware, software, integration, and installation. This includes the integration of Wave Relay® data links, a Persistent Systems product.

Special Operations Solutions, LLC (SOS), a minority-owned small business, has been awarded a prime contract with the Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to provide the wing life monitoring system for the NOAA WP-3D Hurricane Hunter aircraft.

The NOAA Hurricane Hunters are part of the Aircraft Operations Center (AOC), a branch of the NOAA Office of Marine and Aviation Operations (OMAO).  AOC aircraft fly across the United States and worldwide, providing airborne platforms essential to gathering environmental and geographic data for scientific research. The Hurricane Hunters fly over everything from oceans and wetlands to mountains and Arctic ice—even into the eyes of hurricanes—to support NOAA’s mission of understanding and better predicting environmental changes.

Under this contract, SOS will provide hardware, software, and engineering services to enable real-time aircraft and sensor data to support NOAA in the improvement of safety, operating efficiency, and training initiatives.

Luciad announces that Special Operations Solutions, LLC (SOS) is now a Luciad Certified Partner. Representatives from Washington-based SOS visited Luciad’s headquarters in Leuven, Belgium, last month where they signed the Luciad Certified Partner agreement.

SOS has been awarded a technical services contract from Airship of Brazil Indústria Aeronáutica Ltda (AdB). SOS is the prime contractor to AdB. Members of the SOS Team include Leidos, Aeromechanics LLC of England, and FMS Aerospace.

AdB is an aerospace company specializing in the development, manufacture, marketing and operation of lighter-than-air technology (lighter than air – LTA) system such as blimps, airships and balloons crane. The company originated in the 90s, from a project with the Brazilian Army (EB), which sought solve logistics operations in the Amazonian region of Brasil. Additionally several public and private companies have also invested into LTA solitons for Amazonian logistical problems. From the beginning, culture of innovation and research has been the hallmark of AdB.

In 2005, the company was formally established and offices set up in in the cities of São Carlos and Brasilia. Sao Carlos is an academic center of research and development of advanced technologies. AdB utilized the University of São Paulo and the Federal University of São Carlos.

AdB also has agreements in place with Electro Norte, the state power company and the Brasilian Postal Service.

Airship do Brasil and SOS attended the AdB 3-3 certification Kick-off meeting in Sao Jose Dos Campus, headquarters for ANAC, Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil, Aircraft Certification Office. AdB’s goal is to have the first of 4 AdB 3-3s flying by Dec 29th, 2015. SOS is leading the coordination efforts with the US Federal Aviation Administration New York Aircraft Certification Office. The US and Brazil have a bi-lateral agreement which allows for the exchange of flight worthiness guidelines and procedures.
